Coppice Activity

Women’s Coffee Morning

This is a great opportunity for women in the community to get together. The aim behind the coffee morning is to get women to interact and overcome personal and social challenges through sharing common experiences. The coffee morning will also help reducing loneliness, isolation and depression. Why not join our coffee morning and get to meet new people, make friends and socialise. The coffee morning takes place every Monday 10am to 11am.

Women’s Exercise Class

The exercise in this session is especially designed to cater for senior citizens. It focuses on cardiovascular exercises and simple movements to increase their dexterity. The fitness instructor will use various techniques such as chair based exercises and using own body weight. So if you are over the age of 50, why not join the session and become more active and make your everyday tasks a little easier. The session takes place every Wednesday 12am to 1pm.

The Luncheon Club is funded by the Oldham Social Services. The project’s aims are to get the over 50’s to partake in social activity over lunch, in order to reduce isolation, loneliness and depression. It’s also a great opportunity to share common experiences and good practices. The Luncheon Club Charges a nominal fee of £1.00 contribution, which also allows you to participate in women’s exercise classes.

Yoga

This yoga session is for women only, depending on the expressed interest from men, we may put on an additional session for men. This is an excellent way of reducing stress, anxiety through relaxation and meditation techniques. It also helps with increasing ones suppleness so they may perform better movements in their everyday life. We charge a nominal fee of £1.00 contribution and the rest is subsidised by the CNG. Why not join the session and kick out the stress and anxiety out of your life. The session takes place every Tuesday morning 10am to 11am.

Job Club (Drop in)

Are you out of work, seeking unemployment? Lack confidence or the skills to compete in the job market? Why not attend the job club every Tuesday between 11am to 1pm, and you will have access to the internet to search for jobs online, support you with applications, CVs, preparation for interviews. The sessions are free to access.

I.T for Beginners

If you are a technophobe, or feel lost with the computers, internet and social media, these sessions are just for you. You will have access to computers, internet and a tutor who will help you step by step to overcome your fear of computers and take control. The session takes place every Tuesday 1pm to 3pm.

Advice Service

The advice service is reinstated to 18 hours a week from 6 hours a week. Despite the cuts we felt that this service is one of the most important services and formed a partnership with Home Care. It will provide advice and Information on welfare rights, benefits, universal credits, debt management, disability, housing, domestic abuse, health, basic immigration and nationality issues. The times and day the advice will be available. It will take place Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9am – 3pm.

Conversational English Class

This class was setup upon recognising the fact that BAME women understand English basic level of English, but struggle to converse with the English speaking counterpart. The class comprises of practical English, with minimal amount of writing involved. The session is free and it takes place every Thursday 10am – 12am.

Asian Men’s Wellbeing Group

This activity is organised and staffed by the Social Services, Coppice Neighbourhood Group facilitates the youth area and works in partnership to facilitate Mental Health and Wellbeing for men session. The session takes place every Thursday 1pm to 3pm, to provide a warm friendly environment for young men with mental health issues.  

Sewing Class (WEA)

This course is provided by Life Long Learning (WEA) at the Coppice Community Centre. It teaches people how to design, cut and sew their own cloths. It’s a popular course and there are a lot of people on the list. The session takes place every Thursday 9am -12am.

Hair and Beauty (WEA)

This course is provided by the WEA, and currently fully taken up until the next one. It teaches how to do the makeup and correctly and safely. It’s a great opportunity for the women that want to go into hair and beauty business. The Course is held at the Coppice Community Centre every Thursday 12am – 2pm.

Women’s Social Gathering

This is an opportunity for women to come and learn to read Arabic, socialise and discuss faith based issues that affect them personally. It also explores spiritual and personal development and become a responsible and active citizen in the community. The women also organise fundraising events to sustain their group and activities annually. The gathering takes place every Friday 10am to 1pm.

Coppice School Club

Coppice Neighbourhood Group in conjunction with the Tuition Group facilitates a homework club for under achieving children. It’s a very popular, if you require further information please feel free to come in and speak to the tutor on 10am till 12pm every Saturday.

Women’s Self Defence Class

Coppice Neighbourhood Group has facilitated a Tae Kwon Do for women. This is a great opportunity for the women in the community to increase self confidence, learn basic self-defence to protect themselves and increase their level of fitness. The participants will have the opportunity to compete and grade as they progress and develop. Currently it is taking place at the community every Tuesday 7:45pm – 8.30pm.
